This Standard contains requirements that facilitate the planning and installation of a structured cabling system in a commercial building environment. The structure for commercial building cabling is based on the generic cabling system structure specified in TIA-568.0-E. Performance and technical criteria for balanced twisted-pair cabling systems are specified in TIA-568.2-D. Performance and technical criteria for optical fiber cabling systems are specified in TIA-568.3-D.
ANSI/TIA-568.1-E “Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling” was developed by the TIA TR‑42.1 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Subcommittee and published in March, 2020. Significant changes from the previous edition include:
- It’s recommended that two category 6A or higher cabling runs be deployed to each wireless access point
- Horizontal connection point connectors and Cabling Subsystem 1 topologies that support building system and non-work area device connections have been added as functional elements
- The definition of a consolidation point connector has been added and the consolidation point redefined as an assembly of consolidation point connectors
- The definition of a horizontal connection point connector has been added and the horizontal connection point redefined as an assembly of horizontal connection point connectors
- A new clause on Environmental Compatibility has been added
- A new clause on Physical Network Security has been added
- The content of TIA-568.1-D-1 (Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types) has been incorporated
